Exercise E

The text is in full caps, with a slab serif typeface. It also has a central alignment.

The Slab-serif typeface has a strong, square finishing stroke. It is loud, and is usually effective in commanding readers' attention. However, as the letters are fully in caps, the length of each letter are the same and boxy, making it difficult for the readers to read. Furthermore, the body paragraph has very small leading between each line and relatively small text size, making it less readable. The use of center-alignment is also the most difficult to read as there is no consistent starting point. Since it also lacks illustration, the text as a whole also seem boring.

To improve on this, I would first work on the typeface communication. I would take into account the content of the text, and replace the typeface if needed since I should be using one that represents the word that I'm writing about. Next, I will work on the readability of the text. I will remove the center-alignment by aligning it to the left for easy viewing,. This caputres the attention of my reader, guiding them to read things from left to right creating a natural flow since humans are instinctively more used to that. I will also change the body of my paragraph to a Serif typeface. This makes the individual letters more distinctive and easier for our brains to recognise since it is more rounded, making it more readable for the readers. I will retain a San-serif for my print as it would look clean and are good for impact. I will widen the leading between the lines so that the text is more legible.

By making edits as mentioned above, I believe that my text would be more legible than the original text.
