Assignment 3: Infographic

Image
Introduction to my thought process at the start: I worked on a dataset about the top 10 fashion trend of the century to create a fashion infographic. To emphasise the “fashion” element, I mimicked the concept of a fashion magazine for my design – which includes an iconic serif font header, and usually a figure drawn at the central apex of the infographic. I outlined the figure of a female and use it as the trail for time given that this is a timeline infographic initially as shown in figure below. Figure 1 For colours, I went for a muted colour scheme - including cream and blush colours that come with a brownish tint. The colours used highlight a sense of femininity which matches with the fashion content of the infographic. The brownish tint also adds a vintage vibe to the theme which is appropriate since the topic is about past trends. However, the infographic looked too empty in the middle. Hence, I filled up the middle portion as shown below. Figure 2 Upon finish...

Assignment 2: Storytime!

Image
1) Introduction to my thought process at the start:  When I first started this assignment, I wanted to do 3 things: Firstly, I wanted to come up with an interesting, and meaningful plot. Secondly, I wanted to use as many different kinds of shots as possible. Lastly, I wanted to use colours to represent the different mood of the story. In order to fulfil the last criteria, I would have to have a change of mood. While considering my first criteria - to create a meaningful plot - I thought of what mattered most in my life at the moment, and that would be my mother's constant encouragement. Therefore, I came up with a storyline that was especially relatable to myself. I started my first critique submission, where I featured a hardworking student studying hard till late at night. The next day, she was on her way home with her friend and they compare their results. She finds out that she scored below average despite working hard, and was depressed. To depict the emotionally drained...

Based on the image attached, I have identified red, dark brown, dark blue, golden and green. The red hue as seen from the image, the chair, jewellery box, the bow of the flowers and my lipstick highlights a festive and happy season. Given that it was my 21st birthday, red also highlights a sense of maturity and femininity as I celebrate the day I enter adulthood. Red is often complemented with white as seen from the chair and jewellery box, to create a stark contrast in the colour, further emphasising the beauty of the red that looks classy when juxtaposed to white. The brown colour doors in the background complements the red theme in the house well, creating a rustic yet homey image. Brown here emphasises simplicity and comfort, that suits the mood of a household, while complementing the cream and red theme of the house. The golden plating under the plate emphasises a sense of premium, majestic and even the notion of wealth. Set under the tall birthday cake, the colour gold st...

Assignment 1: Abstraction

Image
Assignment 1: Abstraction Blog For Assignment 1, I initially wanted to work on a lift for my abstraction as I thought that it would be simpler given that it has less details. However, after sketching a rough draft on it, I realised that having minimal details ironically makes it difficult for me to abstract it across 5 stages. After much contemplation, I decided to work on my trophy instead. Figure 1: Initial Sketch of the Lift I based my abstraction assignment off the original image as shown below (Figure 2). Figure 2: Original Picture of Trophy As the trophy had more details, I had more to work on and it was easier for the abstraction to be done. I started by sketching my first stage, and looking for an inspiration for my last stage, before filling in the in-between stages. Stage 1: In the first stage, I tried my very best to sketch out all the details in the trophy. Since the trophy is largely symmetrical in shape, I used the reflect tool (Figure 3) to create symmetr...

The text is in full caps, with a slab serif typeface. It also has a central alignment. The Slab-serif typeface has a strong, square finishing stroke. It is loud, and is usually effective in commanding readers' attention. However, as the letters are fully in caps, the length of each letter are the same and boxy, making it difficult for the readers to read. Furthermore, the body paragraph has very small leading between each line and relatively small text size, making it less readable. The use of center-alignment is also the most difficult to read as there is no consistent starting point. Since it also lacks illustration, the text as a whole also seem boring. To improve on this, I would first work on the typeface communication. I would take into account the content of the text, and replace the typeface if needed since I should be using one that represents the word that I'm writing about. Next, I will work on the readability of the text. I will remove the center-alignment by alig...

Use your phone camera, choose a subject and compose it in various shot sizes and camera angles, while demonstrating your understanding of visual composition. Take about 4-6 images. State the purposes using these techniques and how does it affect your audience who perceive your subject. Picture 1: Picture 1: I took a close-up  shot of the pants at an  eye-level . By placing it at eye-level, this allows us to take a neutral and familiar shot. The close-up then zooms in to the top part of the pants where there are many details for us to pay attention to - such as the double button, belt loops, and the colour of the pants. As a viewer, I am given an objective point of view to clearly see the details of the pants which is at the centre apex of the picture.  Picture 2: Picture 2: I took a mid shot at the eye-level. The mid-shot allows us to see the overall structure of the pants, the length of the pants, and the overarching details that I would be interested in as a ...
